DOT.TUNES for iTunes

November 26th, 2008

I have five of my Macs sharing my single iTunes account and, up until now, have had five separate iTunes libraries with unorganized playlists. I want the ability to have one centralized iTunes library that I can stream and retrieve my iTunes files from no matter where I am. There were a few different solutions I tried out, but the final solution calls for using Dot.Tunes iTunes plugin. For my circumstance it was the most suitable solution.

Dot.Tunes allows me to share my centralized iTunes library remotely. If you have a dynamic IP address, swing over to DYNDNS.ORG and set up a free hostname that will update every time your IP address changes. This will ensure that you will be able to connect to your library when your IP address is changed by your ISP.

Dot.Tunes also allows me to download my iTunes files onto my remote machines and loads them directly into my remote iTunes. This is handy when I either want to add songs to my iPhone when on the road, or if I want to bring a playlist on a trip where I know the Internet will be limited. The ability to Download through Dot.Tunes costs $20 per machine, but worth it in convenience. I don’t think it would be worth more than $20 at this point. It would also be great if they offered some sort of unlimited or bulk license option.

I would only use Dot.Tunes for personal use. Dot.Tunes is set up in a way where you can invite your friends, family, etc. to share your library and download your songs, but that crosses the line of copyright infringement and I don’t condone that.

November 3rd, 2008

Nike and Apple have teamed up to offer a running kit that will track your running stats through an iPod Nano and now the iPod Touch. Soon to come will be the Nike+ capability on the iPhone and iPhone 3G. The kit from Nike is $29.00 and then you need to own a pair of Nike+ shoes or buy the shoe pouch that attaches to any shoe. Learn all about the capabilities here. I’ve been using the product for a while now and love it.

Ever wonder how fast your Intenet connection really is? Speakeasy offers a great free tool to test just how fast of a connection you actually have. My home Internet connection was actually higher than what my ISP advertises.

BMW Films – The Hire – “Ambush”

September 12th, 2008

I am a huge fan of BMW Film’s The Hire Series created by ad agency, Fallon. My favorite of the films is “Ambush”. If you haven’t seen these before and/or are a fan of them, I encourage you to buy the DVD. You can buy it on Amazon for under $16.00. Check it out. It was a great marketing campaign. It cost about $13.5 million to produce the 8 films and about $1.5 million to market them.

I recently starting reading Guidlines for Online Success by Rob Ford and Julius Wiedemann. It covers the, “Dos and Don’ts of the Internet from the best interactive agencies around the world”. I strongly suggest you pick it up and read it if you’re interested in doing business online. Amazon sells it for under $30 and the ground shipping was here in less than five days.
